Create the sight and sound of living next to a mountain stream. While tranquility is always the result, you can also use the sound of a waterfall to "block" (like white noise) undesirable sounds from traffic or nearby playgrounds.
Created from a natural slope or by making a berm, waterfalls typically incorporate water cascading down beautiful rock and sometimes into a streambed for the "babbling brook" sound.
A waterfall doesn't necessarily have to end in a pond. Constraints such as space or small children may warrant a pondless waterfall, where the water disappears into the ground instead of into a pond.
