Ponds & Water Features > Filtration Options

The Aquascape system provides a holistic approach to water gardening. These are some of the items that make this a low-maintenance system.

    Biofalls

    • Biological filtration creating the structure for a waterfall and excellent aeration.

    Bacteria

    • Helps start and maintain a pond's health. It keeps the pond clear by adding to the bacterial colonies on the filters and stones. These colonies rob food from the "pea soup" algae, starving it, resulting in clean, clear water.

    Bogs and Wetland Filtration

    • By far the most effective way to filter larger ponds and even lakes. Duplicates natural processes that remove impurities from rivers and lakes.

    Skimmer

    • Sweeps the pond surface depositing debris into a mesh bag for easy removal. It also acts as the pump chamber.

    Plants

    • Plants are needed to help filter the pond and naturalize the setting. Marginal plants can be planted directly in the gravel, cleaning the pond by using nutrients filtered from the water.

    Gravel and Rock

    • Unlike a smooth pond liner, rock provides surface area for bacteria to colonize and also ultraviolet protection for the liner. Rock also lowers cleaning frequency. A stone bottom looks far more natural and is safer to walk on than exposed slippery rubber liners.
